True Rest Float Spa
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
Imagine floating in 1000 pounds of salt water in a specially designed tank. You can choose full sensory deprivation in quiet darkness or select relaxing sounds. I find it really does give me “true rest” and a lovely way to let go, meditate, or use my imagination. I think others would love to try it so I decided to donate 2 floats to the First UU auction - sorry I may be too late. ($89 value or first float $65) If this is your first float, you can learn all about floating with a video animation and details about what to bring and how to prepare for the adventure. Link here: https://www.truerest.com/get-started/#first

Scheduling is very easy but contact me first (614-354-6172) so I can let them know that you are using my account. The spa includes multiple rooms, all private, and a shower to use before and after the float. They include ear plugs and flip flops and they take all the Covid precautions. First time floaters get an orientation and video to prepare for the experience, so you need to come 30 minutes early. I go to the Float Spa in Easton but there is another one in Powell.

Here is info from the company that I took from their website.

MORE THAN JUST PROFOUND RELAXATION
The near-weightless environment of floating allows for the muscles and joints of the body to relax, increasing blood flow and helping to more quickly repair muscle tissues and heal the body.

LESS PAIN, BETTER IMMUNITY, FASTER RECOVERY
Floating gives your immune system the opportunity to shift into a higher gear and our bodies physically rest and recover more quickly in a floatation tank, up to four times faster, in fact. This means that you can train yourself harder and reap the benefits of slower recovery times with the use of a float tank.

LOW GRAVITY, TOTALLY SILENT AND PITCH BLACK
The lack of external stimuli is extremely rare in modern society. Floating offers an unparalleled psychological benefit of a feeling of inner peace, and is a perfect complement to many alternative wellness regimens.

A DREAMLIKE STATE OF MIND IN JUST ONE HOUR
Sensory deprivation allows the mind to enter into the theta state supporting an increase in feelings of creativity, improved sleep patterns and incredible feelings of euphoria and mental relaxation.

Ever been startled by a slamming door on a windy day? Enjoy windy days in peace with this decorative, practical, affordable, heavy, possibly vintage little beauty, which seems like it's made from cast iron. Might be a reproduction of a Hubley doorstop. Something similar online is selling for nearly $300 with tax and shipping, but this one apparently cost only about $20 when new. Approximately 6” wide, 9” tall, 2.5” deep. Will deliver to church or nearby. Here's a link to the expensive similar item. https://www.chairish.com/product/3326511/hubley-cast-iron-flower-basket-doorstop. 1 0 .00015E7 15 N N N N

Franklin County Landfill Tour (was 7/9) - postponed till fall
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
With environmental consciousness driving us, and SWACO’s goal of 75% diversion of waste, how about taking a look at the huge local dump? Join us for a 90-minute "tour" which will include a classroom presentation in SWACO’s Resource Center and a bus tour inside the operations of the landfill. SWACO (4239 London Groveport Rd., Grove City 43123) is a public agency focused on promoting awareness about the importance of waste reduction, recycling and safe disposal at the landfill. After a talk on recycling right and landfill engineering, we’ll get a close-up view from a school bus ride around the dump. No weather or safety concerns as we will stay on the bus. Carpool from the church at 9 am. Snacks will be provided after the tour at nearby Fryer Park (3899 Orders Rd., Grove City 43123) which has a historic village on the grounds. 30 17 .00015E7 15 N N N Y

Guided Firefly Hike
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
You see a few fireflies here and there on any summer night but the vast majority of firefly flashes are concentrated for about a week's time in mid-June. It's firefly mating season and there is an EXPLOSION of firefly light. The musical accompaniment is provided by hundreds of male Gray Tree Frogs on the make. The firefly talk starts at around 9:30 pm and we walk between 10 and 10:30 pm. Location: TO BE DETERMINED (depending on conditions). Last year we walked in the Tallgrass Prairie at Whetstone Park of Roses but traditionally, we meet in the parking lot at the Wilma Schiermeier, Olentangy River Wetland Research Park, 352 W. Dodridge Street, Columbus, OH and walk the less than one-mile loop. It is not uncommon to see raccoons, bats, and sometimes owls. Flashlights are discouraged but red lights are fine. We can provide red lights for about 10 people and bug spray. Social distancing and masks. 50 40 .00015E7 15 6/24/22 9:30 PM N N N Y

Upgrade Your Face Masks! N95 by 3M
Invalid Image LinkSold

Five N95-rated face masks by 3M. Model 9205+. These are white and have bands that go around the head (apparently all N95 masks do for a better seal). If you prefer the ones with ear loops, just let me know. Still white. Also made by 3M. They are KN95 (Model 9501) and you will receive 10 instead. Both would ship directly from vendor to address you provide. Allow a few weeks for delivery. CDC just recently revised recommendations for everyone to get one of these if they can find them. Earlier, they preferred N95 be left for healthcare workers. Small batches are still a little hard to find. I didn’t need 50 to 100. These are same one we bought for us and for Mom and Dad. We bought both styles. Only took a few days to ship. Wasn’t sure which they would prefer. 1 0 .00015E7 15 N N Y N

Lake House Retreat for UU Women Who like to Think, Talk, Hang Out, Chill
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
Come deepen your connection with other UU women at my small lakehouse in Chippewa Lake, Ohio. We can collectively talk, relax, walk, play cards, color mandalas, visit an antique store, a second-hand shop, or the lovely gardens of the community. Plan a book discussion or yoga time, cycle for the ambitious! Or a camp fire! Or swim a little.

Lots of good food, wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages. Towels and sheets provided, just bring a change of clothes and a toothbrush! Cottage is comfortable and has all basic amenities.

Previous years’ experiences have made it clear that it will not be hard for us to find lots of meaningful connections. How often do we really get to talk?

Nancy will arrive the evening of 9/16. Saturday 9/17 is also included. Some have preferred to come Saturday morning. Leave Sunday 9/19, morning if you need to go, or stay until 1 when the troupe of fairy god cleaners arrives.

There is no internet service, but cell phone reception is decent, and Nancy has a hot spot.

Food needs and preferences all accommodated with notice. Baseline lean animal protein, vegetable protein, fruits, vegetables, whole grain diet, plus a little chocolate. I can cook vegetarian.

Address is 41 Shadywood Drive, Chippewa Lake, Ohio. Chippewa Lake is Ohio’s largest glacial lake, an old and quiet, pretty community about 90 minutes from Columbus, almost a straight shot up 71N toward Cleveland, 20 miles due W of Akron. Carpool if you can, but there will be enough parking space regardless.

The assumption is that full vaccination status for Covid-19 is a given. Only vaccinated people can be accommodated. We will follow CDC directives current for the time, adapt plans as needed. Plenty of out door space, separate sleeping areas for all.

Bird-Friendly Coffee Sponsored by the Smithsonian
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
Bird-Friendly coffee was created by Smithsonian scientists and is grown under shade trees that provide habitat for birds, including migratory species. 100% shade-grown and USDA organic. Instead of clearing trees and destroying habitat, shade trees sequester carbon. Shade-grown coffee tastes better because the beans take longer to mature under shade. Currently, 46,000+ growers protect over 32,000 acres of Bird-Friendly habitat. To learn more visit DrinkBirdFriendly.com
You get three 12-ounce packages of ground coffee, one bag of light roast, one medium roast, and one espresso.

Irish Soda Bread
Invalid Image LinkSold
Invalid Image Link
Irish Soda Bread is a traditional product of a poor country and is made with the most basic of ingredients: flour, baking soda (used as a leavening agent instead of yeast), soured milk to moisten and activate the soda, and salt. In the tradition of her Grandmother Ferguson, Sheila will cut a cross on the top with a knife, to ward off the devil and protect the household. She also recommends leaving a piece in the corner of the kitchen for the wee-folk.
Note: we are offering two separate cakes for auction

Although best served as part of your St. Patrick's Day celebration (March 17, 2022), Sheila can bake it anytime with a week's notice.

Outdoor Pizza/Wing Cookout and Games on the Big Screen (was 5/21)
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
You are invited to an outdoor gathering with a multimedia twist! Please join us for a pizza/wing/game night in our backyard.Gather responsibly with friends outdoors, make your own pizzas in the pizza oven, enjoy chicken wings smoked on the grill, and sides and drinks will be provided!

We’ll have outdoor games at the ready and as nightfall approaches we’ll set up a campfire and the outdoor screen for some friendly, yet competitive, video party gaming for ALL ages and comfort levels (Jackbox, Just Dance, or even Mario Kart/Smash Bros!). Kids are welcome (we have a play set and trampoline to keep them amused). A liking for dogs is appreciated. We will check with our guests prior to make sure we are able to accommodate dietary restrictions, and if the weather is inclement we will work with our guests to find an alternate date.

We'll keep it green with compostable or washable plates and cutlery and ethically and responsibly sourced ingredients as much as we are able!

Home Solar System Purchase - Home Owner Experience Based Presentation for Buyers
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Thinking of installing a solar panel system at your home? Or just curious about these systems? If so, you won't want to miss this Zoom presentation by the First UU EcoJustice group (no vendors present). A 45-minute presentation followed by a 45-minute Q&A session will be hosted by First UU homeowners who have solar panel systems installed at their homes. Topics will include (1) the process from engaging a vendor through switching on the system, (2) what equipment is installed, (3) approximate cost and financing options (often surprisingly low cost), (4) viability for homes without a South-facing roof (good news!), (5) monitoring and maintenance, (6) what happens if you need a new roof or move, and (7) the federal tax credit. Note that "off-grid" systems and backup batteries will not be covered.

Note that the pricing is per household. This presentation also offered on 3/6/2022.

"Moonstruck" Under a Full Moon
Invalid Image LinkSold

There is a full moon on September 10, which also happens to be our 45th wedding anniversary. Help us celebrate by watching the movie "Moonstruck." This 1987 romantic comedy, starring Cher and Nicholas Cage, tells the tale of three generations of an Italian-American family and their adventures and misadventures in love. If you haven't seen this movie, you need to see it. If you saw it a long time ago, you need to see it again. It never gets old!
We'll accompany the movie with Italian wine and snacks/hors d'oeuvres.

There is really no way to hold this event outside, so if Covid is still with us, we'll reschedule, hopefully at the next full moon. We ask that attendees be vaccinated.

Portrait of BLM Icon Breonna Taylor
Invalid Image LinkInvalid Image Link
Breonna is an icon in the Black Lives Matter movement. She was a medical emergency technician, who was shot to death late one night in a botched investigation of drug dealers. The police forced entry into the apartment. Her boyfriend, thinking they were intruders, shot at them. They returned fire and killed Breonna. This should be a familiar story to anyone working for racial justice. I think there has still not been a proper investigation.
Portrait is 11.5 x 14.5 framed, done in watercolor by myself.
I can deliver to buyer if local.
